The Comarca de Calatayud hosted a public information session on 19 June dedicated to the unique and monumental trees found across the territory, providing an opportunity to learn more about their environmental, landscape and cultural value.
The session took place at 1:00 p.m. at the Comarca de Calatayud headquarters and featured the participation of an Environmental Protection Agent (Agente de Protección de la Naturaleza – APN), who shared knowledge related to the conservation and management of the natural environment in the area.
Understanding trees to appreciate the territory
The session focused on some of the monumental trees and unique tree groves that form part of the landscape of the Comarca de Calatayud, helping participants discover the value of these natural resources and their importance for the territory.
Unique trees are living witnesses to the passage of time and form part of the identity of the places where they grow. Protecting them contributes to preserving biodiversity and landscapes, while also safeguarding part of the natural and cultural heritage of local communities.
The session also presented the new dendrochronological study of the unique trees of the Comarca de Calatayud, highlighting how scientific knowledge can contribute to a deeper understanding of these trees and support their conservation and dissemination.
Sharing knowledge to preserve natural heritage
The session was part of a broader initiative focused on the conservation, enhancement and educational dissemination of the monumental trees and tree groves of the comarca.
Bringing this knowledge closer to citizens can contribute to greater awareness of the natural environment. Understanding the history, characteristics and value of these trees helps reveal the richness of the territory and the importance of preserving it for future generations.
Espacio Cultivare contributed to the initiative by preparing content and resources designed to support the dissemination and interpretation of the natural heritage of the Comarca de Calatayud.
The initiative was developed within the framework of the Sustainable Tourism Destination Plan of the Comarca de Calatayud, funded by the European Union through NextGenerationEU funds.
